Churches and Schools
The first major developments by Saskatchewan Settlers were Churches, Schools, Post Offices and Community Centres. Often one building would serve many purposes. Architectural styles varied with origins of settlers in most areas.

Pictured above is the Mikolas Family Farmhouse, circa 1950. Karl and Rose Mikolas raised 11 children on their modest farm, SouthEast of Gerald, Saskatchewan. Bernard Mikolas farmed the land until 2003. Family Farms
The Family Farm is mostly a thing of the past. Today's agriculture leaves little room for small operations and many have given up their dream of a farm life to take up work in an Urban environment. This section is dedicated to those pioneers and their descendants who provided Saskatchewan with such a colourful past.

RE: SaskHeritage.Org announces launch of New Heritage Web Site and Summer Project

SaskHeritage.Org is an organization dedicated to the Preservation of Saskatchewan's Heritage through digitization, education and participation in Community Projects.

We are proud to announce that we will be sponsoring SaskHeritage.Com's "Mobile Digitization Project"! (see http://www.saskheritage.com/)

Consisting of people with a passion to keep the proud traditions and cultures of Saskatchewan's past from being forgotten, like Genealogists and Historical Researchers, the Project Team's goal is to digitize all of Saskatchewan's Community Past and archive the information for viewing by persons with an interest in Saskatchewan.

Project Members will be visiting Saskatchewan Communities beginning in the Summer of 2006 to perform "Digitization Clinics" and digitally record Cemetery records and other documentation relevant to genealogical and historical pursuits. Use of these records will be governed by Canadian Privacy Laws and at no time will living persons' sensitive information be used without specific consent from the individual. Information about preservation and maintenance of items of significance to Saskatchewan Heritage (example: gravestones/markers) along with demonstrations of various cleansing and preserving techniques will be available in each location the Team visits.

Genealogical Seminars will also be available to interested participants when the "Mobile Digitization Project" visits a community. Family tree hobbyists, amateur genealogists and even seasoned researchers will find useful information in these sessions, which are designed to demonstrate the many facets of building a complete and accurate Family Tree. Other Seminars are available to governments (local and municipal), societies and associations, and other interested groups.

The Organization is seeking members and volunteers from Communities across Saskatchewan. Person's interested in forming a Community Chapter of SaskHeritage.Org, or wishing to suggest/participate in a Heritage Project should visit the organization's web site at: http://www.saskheritage.org/.

SaskHeritage.Org is a non-profit organization and is sponsoring the Mobile Digitization Project. Donation information can be found at http://www.saskheritage.org/ .
